Prof. Avv. Giorgio Afferni LL.M.
Admitted to the bar of the Italian supreme courts, expert of contract and tort law, competition law, banking and financial market law, media and communication law, copyright and art law. He has performed his professional activity in some of the most relevant compensatory and inhibitory collective actions in Italy in the areas of competition, banking and financial market law.
Associate professor of private law and European private law at the University of Genoa. Previously he has taught Law and Economics in the Master in Economic and Finance of the University of Naples Federico II and media and communication law at the University of Genoa. He is a full member of the Italian Financial Ombudsman of the Italian Financial Markets Authority. He was a member of the technical group on the new class action established by the Italian Minister of Justice. He is coordinator of the Special Interest Group of the European Law Institute on competition law and director of the Italian law review Arte e Diritto (Art and Law).
Giorgio Afferni has received a doctorate in private law by the University of Pisa, being awarded with the Francesco Santoro Passarelli Price of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei for the best dissertation in private law, a Master in Law (LL.M.) by the Harvard Law School, and a Juris Doctor degree by the University of Genoa (with two semesters at the Johannes Gutemberg Universität of Mainz, Germany). He was visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute in private international and comparative law in Hamburg.
